This new variety of white Nanking cherry is sweeter and lower in acidity than the common red-fruited Nanking cherry variety. Gabe is a multi-stemmed shrub that will grow to a mature height of 4 to 8 feet and spreading to 8 feet wide. The white fruits are slightly larger than the red Nanking fruits. Gabe has a highly sweet, low-acid flavor that is best eaten fresh. Gabe flowers early in spring, with deep pink buds that change to bright white when in full bloom for about 10 days. The plant will yield 8 to 12 pounds when it is mature, and the fruits are easily harvested. Gabe is not self-pollinating, so we recommend planting it with the Ian variety for good cross-pollination.
