Resilient Roots in the CC Hydrangea Fest

Come see what your fellow Cape Codders are growing! Resilient Roots is showcasing nine gardens in this year’s Cape Cod Hydrangea Festival, which runs from July 11-20 as a fundraiser for local nonprofits. These outdoor spaces feature native plants, edible food forests and vegetable gardens, and pollinator and wildlife habitat—all created through permaculture and other eco-friendly practices.

One is the oldest private working farm on the Cape, dating to 1750. Another is a family home on a third of an acre that’s filled with hazelnuts, peaches, apples, Asian pears, pawpaws, berry patches, grapes, hardy kiwis, and more. And yet another will combine its garden tour with an open studio of works by local artists Skip Treglia and Elaine Cohen.

So whether you’re looking to learn more about capturing rain water, turning your lawn into a healthier alternative, growing vertically to save space, creating a water feature, or adding more native plants, this year’s tours have something for you. Strolling through a neighbor’s yard for friendly tips and inspiration is what this event is all about. So grab a friend and plan to see some of the Cape’s most eco-friendly and beautiful outdoor spaces this July.

Each garden is open for a $5 fee, payable on site. All proceeds from these nine gardens will be used for our environmental education efforts.
