Resilient Roots
Instructions for Making a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) from an IRA
Thank you for considering a Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) to support Resilient Roots. If you are aged 70½ or older, a QCD allows you to transfer money annually directly from your traditional IRA to a qualified charity. This distribution satisfies all or part of your Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) without inflating your taxable income.
Critical IRS Rule for Donors
To qualify as a tax-free QCD, the funds must flow directly from your IRA custodian to Resilient Roots. If the custodian issues the check to you first, and you then deposit it and write a personal check to us, the distribution will legally count as taxable income.
1. Delivery & Check Writing Instructions
Please provide the following exact information to your IRA custodian (e.g., Charles Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard) when initiating the distribution:
· Payee / Legal Charity Name: Resilient Roots, Inc.
· Tax ID / EIN: 82-3458104
· Mailing Address: Resilient Roots, 307 Willow St, West Barnstable
· Memo Line: Please have your broker write your full name in the check's memo line
2. Notify Us of Your Upcoming QCD Check
IRA custodians often mail paper checks directly to our office without any accompanying donor contact information. Please notify us when you request the transfer so we can properly match the check to you, track your donation, and issue your tax acknowledgment letter.
Please send an email to kristiekapp@resroots.org or call 508- 375-7937 with:
Donor Name & Mailing Address
IRA Custodian Firm Name
Exact or Estimated Dollar Amount
Gift Designation (e.g., General Operating Fund, specific program)
3. Contact Information for Questions or Electronic Wire
If your financial custodian prefers to initiate this transaction via a direct electronic ACH/Wire transfer rather than a physical check, please have them contact us directly for our secure banking routing details:
Contact Person: Kristie Kapp, Exec. Dir. Email: kristiekapp@resroots.org Phone: 508- 375-7937
Disclaimer: Resilient Roots is a 501(c)(3) public charity and is fully eligible to receive QCDs. We do not provide tax, legal, or financial advice. Because individual tax situations vary, please consult your financial advisor or CPA before executing a QCD to confirm it aligns with your financial planning.
