Summer Pruning - 6/21/2025

$30.00

9 - 11:30 am Would you like to have fruit trees in your yard but worry you don’t have the room? Or do you have rhododendrons or azaleas that have gotten out of hand?

Join us as professional gardener and horticulturist Marjorie Williams teaches us methods of pruning that are thousands of years old and that can enable you to put four to eight fruit trees in less space than a couple of full-sized trees. And you don’t need to buy dwarf varieties. You just need to know how to control the tree’s size by pruning twice a year—once in March and once on the summer solstice.

We’ll start indoors with some pruning basics and before-and-after slides to give you a feel for the process. Then we’ll move out to the Resilient Roots demonstration garden to watch Marjorie do some actual fruit-tree pruning so you can see those techniques live. Marjorie will also be touching on some tips for rejuvenation pruning of rhododendrons, azaleas, and forsythia.

A graduate of the New York Botanical Garden’s Professional Gardening Program, Marjorie has 40 years of pruning experience. She also trained with world-renowned Bonsai Master Yugi Yoshimura and had her own business installing and maintaining clients’ gardens.
