Growing Garlic, Turmeric, & Ginger - 10/19/24

$29.00

9 - 11:30 am You can grow garlic, turmeric, and ginger in your backyard! In this workshop, Resilient Roots executive director Kristie Kapp will walk you through all you need to know to start growing these three kitchen staples.

We’ll start with garlic, covering soil preparation, when to plant, how to prepare bulbs for planting, how to plant, watering regimes, fertilizer timing, harvest and post-harvest techniques, and other tips for a successful crop. We are here to bust the myths and give you the knowledge you need to produce a great crop of garlic.

Note that you should buy seed garlic well in advance and store it in a cool, dry place until after Halloween; you should not plant garlic before November 1. This workshop will not have garlic seed for sale, and local garden shops often sell out, so plan accordingly by buying your garlic seed early and then storing it until the proper planting time.

We’ll also cover growing ginger and turmeric. Both are possible as annual crops in our climate.

This workshop takes place in West Barnstable (directions provided after signup).
