Ecological Landscaping & Soil Health - 7/25/2025
1 - 4 pm Healthy soil is the foundation of not only a productive garden but also a thriving planet. We rely on that dirt under our feet to grow food, filter water, and hold carbon--all vital for our survival. So we’re teaming up with the Northeast Organic Farming Association (NOFA) to offer a special workshop focusing on this critical resource. This Marstons Mills workshop is aimed at both professional landscapers and home gardeners. The session offers 1 continuing education credit for the Massachusetts Certified Landscape Professional (MCLP) program.
Resilient Roots Executive Director Kristie Kapp and NOFA/Mass Soil Technical Coordinator and Education Director Rubén Parrilla will cover the basics of soil microbiology, the importance of soil testing, and organic techniques to build and maintain healthy soil. These sustainable and resilient landscaping methods can decrease weed pressure, increase plant nutrient availability, and sink and store water. The result? Landscapes that, in addition to being beautiful and productive, provide essential pollinator habitat, decrease erosion, and help mitigate climate change by storing carbon in the ground. Human activity has been destroying the soil that helps balance our ecosystem. Come learn how to be part of the solution!
